Hi all, I'm having serious problems since "upgrading" to DivX 6. Specifically, Matroska files stopped working as soon as DivX Player did its first online update.
I got the Matroska filters working again by reinstalling all the audio codecs, but now my Xvid files won't play. Basically, I want to: 1. Delete ALL third-party audio/video codec files. 2. Run a registry sweep to delete all references to the above files. 3. Reinstall my old codecs that were working just fine. 4. Kick myself in the a$$ for upgrading when it wasn't really needed. Anyone have a list of the default XP codec files? I could then search and destroy those that aren't on the list. Can I just delete the .AX files, or are there specific .DLL files that need to die also? (btw, uninstalling via add/remove programs didn't do the trick. No surprise there.) Thanks! |

Hi!
See this guide for the default codecs in 2k/XP. Can check what codecs are installed/registered with GSpot or AVIcodec. And you can unregister the codecs/filters you don't need with Radlight Filter Manager easily. Then you may delete the responsible .ax, .dll files. But do this carefully! |

Hey chp, thanks! I had just run Sherlock when I saw your post. It had been telling me that DivX wasn't properly uninstalled. I then used RadLight Filter Manager to determine the DivX CLSID in the registry.
I deleted the CLSID and ran Sherlock and RFM; both no longer see any DivX entries. I then re-installed the default XP codecs per the link you gave. I think I'm ready to re-install my third-party codecs. Here's what I have to install: 3ivx_d4_451_win.exe XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe XviD Media Codec 1.0.2.exe Haali Matroska Splitter.exe Real Alternative 1.42.exe QuickTime Alternative 1.48.exe As you can see, I've found two XviD codecs but no DivX codec. I'm very leery about using DivX.com's release, and am hoping to fine a simple DivX codec - no bells, whistles, or other crap. Do you have any suggestions before I proceed? You wouldn't be willing to read the Sherlock report, would you? Many thanks for any help! |

Yeah the list seems ok to me. But why you want to install 2 XviD codecs?
Maybe you can install AC3 Filter 1.01a RC5, it's great for AC3 decoding. BTW I still use DivX Pro 5.2.1 (only the codec, nothing else) and have no problems with it. But the XviD Codec will decode fine as well. |

QUOTE (chp @ Aug 7 2005, 12:03 AM) Yeah the list seems ok to me. But why you want to install 2 XviD codecs? Sorry, I should have remembered to ask you which one to install. Umm... I already have the ACR Filter. Would you mind looking over my Sherlock report of installed codecs? I'll build a statue of you in my front yard if ya do! |

Thanks, bro! I'll keep this thread going in case it helps some other sad bastard
Since your last post I've installed the following: Microsoft Codec Package for WMP 7.1 or later XviD Media Codec 1.0.2 3ivx D4 4.5.1 DivX 5.2.1 for Windows XP (Codec only. I didn't install the Generic MPEG-4 Playback Component. Maybe I should have...) Haali Matroska Splitter CoreAAC Directshow filter 1.1.0 (for my mkv files) QuickTime Alternative 1.48 Real Alternative 1.42 MKV, MOV, and RM files are now working in jetAudio, but it and WMP 10 are still crashing with AVI files. I've attached the Sherlock report, which now returns no errors even tho I'm still having AVI problems. Also, here's what Codec Finder is telling me about one of my videos: Name: The Wire s02e07 - Backwash.avi Video Codec FourCC: div3 Video Codec: DivX;-) MPEG4 v3 Codec or Variant Installed?: NO! Video Width x Height: 352 x 240 Video FPS/Bitrate: 29.971 / 654 kbit/s Audio Codec: MPEG Layer 3 Audio Bitrate: 47 Kbit/s Audio Channels: 1 (Mono) Audio Samples: 44,100 Hz Thanks again, I hope this makes more sense to you than it does me! Now, I gotta go find a ten-foot slab of marble for that statue...

Nice list
Maybe you can install OGG Directshow Filters for OGMs. In connection with the report, that video requires older DivX decoder DIV3, DivX MPEG-4 Low motion (and others DIV4, DivX MPEG-4 Fast motion). You can download these here: CODE http://www.codec-archiv.de/win/3/divx_3.11.zip http://www.codec-archiv.de/win/4/DivX4_FullInstaller.exe or in FFDShow Configuration set the following
