Dear all,

First I would like to say hi to you guys here. I am new to this forum and I come here to seek you guys wisdom.
I encounter quite a strange problem and hope someone here could give me a solution.

My problem is , as state in the title, could not play any kind of video file after update to sp2. They are fine before the update but once it updates to sp2, there is
no picture when i play the video file, only the sound left.

I have tried window media player, real player, media player classic, vlc player and the result is the same.

My system is
CPU: Intel E8200
MoBo: Asus P5E
VGA: ATI HD3870 driver catalyst 8.4
Ram: Patriot DDR2-800 2x2G
OS: window xp sp1

I keep wondering if that due to driver / codec crash but seems it is incorrect as it only happens after update to sp2.

Anyone know why?

Kulkeep,

thanks for your reply, this problem has been annoying me so long and as it is so weird that none of anyone I know can answer.

I will try your method later and tell you the result after I try it.

Many thanks

Took you long enough to update to SP2...considering SP3 "is out of the blocks now. " rolleyes.gif

Lots of patches/updates after SP2 so suggest you get computer updated. Make sure update chipset/mobo drivers and sound. Assuming got latest directX, I would start with getting a good codec pack like K-lite which includes FFDSHOW. thumbsup.gif

Ha Ha,

My problem has not been solved yet.

Rather, after doing all the works, it keeps asking me to install the sound card driver. The driver is always there and it happens even i reinstall it.

And other funny thing is, in the Add/Remove Programme box, it shows nothing! That means, no program now is installed!?
