HI,
Please advise me which codec i should install. (I just install XP codec pack, but still cannot open the file *.avi)

The problem as below:

Hi,

you should check the file with "G-Spot". It gives you information about the neccessary codec.

I recommend also to read the pinned topic "Guide to using codecs".

em... another question, may i know which codec pack is the most updated version? Or is there any?

If you open the file with GSpot, it'll tell you what's the codec in this AVI and you will be able to download it hopefully. I suggest check this before installing another codec pack.
