Whenever I try to play a DVD in Windows 2000, I get an error message:
QUOTE
There is no Windows 2000 compatible DVD decoder installed on this system. A DVD decoder device or decoder software is requived to play movies (a DVD drive alone is not sufficient).

If this computer could play DVD Videos before Windows 2000 was installed then your DVD decoder is not compatible with Windows 2000. You may be able to fix this problem by downloading new decoder software from your computer manufacturer. Please visit http://www.hardware-update.com using your Internet browser

I checked that URL and it no longer has anything useful on it. I've had a look around for free DVD players and so on, and I've found a few, but none will work. It seems I need DVD Decoder software first.
I heard that what I need might be an MPEG-2 Filter, and also an AC-3 Filter, but I haven't been able to find where to get these for free.

Please help me.

First: please make a scan with your antispyware program, you might have some spyware installed.

AC3 Filter - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm

Dscaler MPEG Filters - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Dscaler_MPEG_Filters.htm
or
GPL MPEG-1/2 DirectShow Decoder Filter - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GPL_MP...oder_Filter.htm

Yes, DVD software that include MPEG2 decoders are not included with the OS.

Often DVD players and multimedia software is bundled when you buy a video card/sound card. If you don't want to buy WINDVD or PowerDVD (most popular DVD players) then just use Media Player Classic or WMP with the proper codec.

FFDSHOW, Cyberlink decoder (included within K-lite), Nvidia decoder are several ones that you can download. Try doing a search on sister site FREE-CODECS and you will find lots of choices. wink.gif
