Greetz everyone!
This site has been a fantastic guide in helping me with codecs. However, there is a problem just completely stumping me!
I am running XP Corp edition SP2 with Cyberlink PowerDVD.
I am trying to view an AVI file using either media player or power dvd, both yield the same result.
GSpot video stats:
4CC: DX50 Name: DivX 5.0
Stat: 2 compatible codecs (both are Divx decoder filters)
Problem: All videos (mpg, avi, etc) display with an odd looking tint. Colors are wrong, WAY too bright, no detail and almost appears to have an insane amount of brightness. When I watched a video before the wall was green, now it's bright pink.
I have reinstalled 2 times so far, installed a base set of apps and tried again only to yield the same result. I'm not sure wtf is wrong. Nothing on my hardware has changed. The ONLY thing that I have done differently is installed WIN XP SP2 instead of my trusty ole WIN XP SP1 (electing NOT to install SP2).
I'm really hoping someone else has seen this. Again, ALL of these videos worked in the past and I have NOT altered any hardware.
At this point I have no choice but to revert back to my old installation of XP SP0 and upgrade everything except SP2. If there's a way to make it work, I'll try anything. I've followed the "CODEC GUIDE" to the T and still had same results.
Ok, enough rambling. Help Me Rhonda Help Help Me Rhonda!

My suggestion:
try
VLCthere is no such videofile (except some screwed up .wmv files

) that cannot be played with this one.

Thanks Jan. My main concern is that I get this same result without loading ANY codecs. I did a bare install of XP SP2 with the NVIDIA drivers (off their website) for my card and saw the same weird tint change.
I'm re-installing now and hope that might resolve the issue.

Pretty hard not knowing your specs or how your old your components are.
Is this just watching movies or does it affect the whole display?
If it's the latter...
-Try removing/reseating video card cleaning out dust.
-Check DB15 VGA or DVI connection at back if loose or broken pins
-Install latest (77.82) applicable to video card (always uninstall old ones first!)
-MAke sure you have latest DirectX 9C (likely included)
-Install latest WINXP SP2 updates and drivers for rest of peripherals
*Also consider age of video card and/or monitor if continue experiencing problems.
Could try rollback to older nvidia driver if new one fails

Thanks Mischcabob, I apologize for not including all my specs. It's hard to remember to include everything - figured stats from gspot might lead to a solution.
Specs:
Nvidia GForce Ultra 6800 PCI Express (not using SLI) - latest drivers
P2.4 proc with 2 gig ram
Sony LCD 21' Monitor
Area affected is strictly where the video display area is in the application (power dvd or media player).... unless of course I double click on it and it becomes full screen, then the entire area is technically affected.
Only occurs when playing videos (avi, mpg, etc). Does not occur when running excel, looking at jpg's, surfing the web, etc.
Obviously a codec/driver issue - just not clear on which. Hopefully XP SP0 will resolved it.
Was just hoping someone else had witnessed the same problem and had a better work around than going back to an older version of XP.
Thanks again!

sweet vid card
I would just uninstall all codec packs... stick with one app i.e. Cyberlink (DVD/SVCD/VCD) at a time. test & troubleshoot. Maybe install WMP10 along with SP2 since most files can be played through either player.
As above.. install everything in logical order. hardware drivers, chipset, winxp updates.
Have you tried the nvidia dvd player (bundled with card)?

Thanks again Mischcabob!
I hear ya, logical progression... just weird how it all happened. Like one of those, "It's broke and I didn't change anything, that I can remember"...hahah. One day everything is fine, the next I'm in some weird tint arena!
Right now I've just installed a blank XP SP0. I'm going to setup the video/sound with zero codecs and try to run something in media player. Then I'll add one thing at a time until I see the problem occur.
Hopefully that should narrow it down and maybe I can assist someone with a similar issue in the future!

MUHAHAHHA!!!!
Problem SOLVED! God I hate hardware drivers some days.
Apparently there is a SERIOUS bug in the latest NVidia drivers (version 77.72) that causes this color-issue. Reverted back to 71.89 and problem gone.
Now I get to reinstall with XP SP2.... sigh... a nerd's job is never done.

Problem: Any/All mpg's, avi's, ogg's, wmv's, etc - display in media player or any other video software as an odd color shade. Tint looks wrong and other video appears as though there is a fog overlaying the video.
Cause: The latest release of NVidia drivers (77.00+) fails to properly set the Color Correction setting.
Solution: Go into Nvidia setting, Color Correction. Set the color correction to ALL (instead of desktop or overlay). Click apply default settings. Click Ok. Problem should be solved!
Solution 2: Revert back to a previous version of the Nvidia driver set (72.00-).
THIS IS NOT A CODEC ISSUE!
Thanks,
Slyp

As a side note - you will notice that upon reboot the color correction does NOT keep the setting for ALL. You must do this each time you reboot.
My recommended solution : Revert to 71.89 driver set and wait for a more reliable release.
