I just re-installed windows media center 2005 2 days ago, yesterday I reloaded all my apps and drivers. I've never tried to download a mp3 file before, but when I tried to download a mp3 file I saved on my site, internet explorer automatically saved the mp3 as a mp2 file. I think that file-type is older, and some of my programs can't read it as well. Yesterday I installed a codec pack called K-Lite Codec Pack. I don't know if that had something to do with it, but in it was an option called mpeg-2. I installed it. Today when I tried to uninstall the codec pack to see if it would fix it, it uninstalled but said some of the components could not be removed. So I re-installed it again, but this time without the mpeg2 codec. But I still think it's on my computer. since it's trying to save it as a mp2 file, that led me to believe it has something to do with mpeg2. The similarities? Anyways, I could be wrong, and this is getting on my nerves. Does anyone have an idea to what's wrong?

Don't confuse MPEg1-layer 2 (Mp2) audio with MPEG2 video (DVD). Two different things.

However, not sure what you mean IE. automatically converting mp3 to mp2 audio. Maybe you changed association to open with certain app or converter? Could always use "Save target as" when saving the MP3 file off your website.
