This new computer came with Real Player ver 6.0.9 already installed. I've now installed Firefox 1.0.6 but it doesn't stream Real files. This Guide
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206215#troubletells me I should've a plugin, but I don't know where to find one. The *modified plugin* mentioned in the above Guide is for RealPlayer ver 10 which I wouldn't want to upgrade to.
1) Does anyone know where I can find a Mozilla plugin for Real Player 6?
2) If the only solution is to get Real Alternative, should I uninstall Real Player 6 before I install Real Alternative or can they both live together on my computer?
Grateful any advice.

I'd use the link to Mozilla.org which is (I would think) a part of your Firefox bookmark collection, and post the question to the forums there. They do a pretty good job of supporting their users through that medium.
I had a similar problem with Flash by Macromedia. It was apparently on the machine, since IE was playing flash on websites. But I had a "get the plugin here" message on my Mozilla browser. I finally said to hack with it, and ok'd the install of the plugin. Not much happened, except that Mozilla started recognizing Flash content on pages.
For instance, the preferences I had established in IE were now visible in Mozilla, but were at the state I had modified them to, not some "default" state.
Good luck.

Many thanks, Jim. You're quite right, I'll try the Mozilla groups. Also, I'm now noticing the pinned topic on how to uninstall Real - so I might well get rid of it and go for Real Alternative instead. Hopefully it'll all work out. O God, why is life so complicated?
