This may be of interest to you in testing out your new sound system.
While diddling around with sound, which I am just beginning to explore beyond system installed basics, I found an interesting test suite at the Fraunhofer IIS MP3 Surround Evaluation site.
Fraunhofer IIS MP3 Surround Evaluation
http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/index.htmlhttp://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/mp3surround/This Demo Song suite is a 33482KB .zip download, with an interesting range of songs.
The site's main point is to permit download of Fraunhofer's MP3 Surround sound software evaluation suite, which is a 5573KB file, in ver. 1.1.0.
When I installed in January of this year, after some tweaking, it seemed to work well enough with my Winamp and the on'board sound on this Dell 1800mhz machine. Today, the mp3's are still working, but the .wav channel test track for the suite locks up Winamp. This is apparently because of changes to Winamp, which I've upgraded a couple of times recently for security fixes.
I hope the upgrade to 1.1.0 will fix that problem and not break anything. My impression at the time of the original install was that even without surround sound (5.1?) speakers, and operating directly off of the system board sound plug, the Fraunhofer software improved the sound quality on my machine. Question is, will I be able to make the upgrade work as well, or at all? More later.
