Full Version: jpeg headache
I can view all my own pictures from my camera with windows fax and media viewer and Adobe Photo shop 2.0, but any files I copy from the net I'm not able to do anything with, let alone view with either of these programs. Is there any settings in either of these programs that I need to change or what?
Did you say Photoshop 2.0... that's a bit old don't you think?
They are up to version CS2 (version 9) right now.
Well, what type of format are the files you get from the net? You will need to associate the filetype to an application in order to open/view it.
Most filetypes i.e. gif, JPG, PNG, EPS etc. can be opened by most modern graphics programs.

You did not tell how you were attempting to view these image files, which could be by opening them from within the WFMP or Adoby programs, or by clicking on them in Windows Explorer.
As Mishcabob advises, clicking on them in Windows Explorer would open them using an "association" for the file type, which specifies what program is used to view the particular type of file. Sometimes there is no association established, and sometimes the association is to a web browser or other program which is not a specialized photo viewer.
It's possible that your Windows Fax and Media Player and Adobe Photoshop are "associated" with the file type produced by your camera, and so can be viewed within Windows Explorer, but no program has been associated with the image file types you "copy" from the internet, and so they are not viewable by clicking on them in Windows Explorer.
But you should be able to navitage to them using "file/open" within your WFMP or Photoshop programs and open-view them, unless they are a file type which is not supported by those programs. That seems unlikely, but since you did not indicate what the file extension is, or how you "copy" them from the internet, it is possible.

Hmmm, just realized you were trying to open jpeg looking at topic.

Possible the jpeg is newer version i.e. jpeg2000, uses progressive instead of baseline or has color space/profile that current software doesn't read properly.
Therefore...
1. Try renaming extension .jpeg to .jpg. Sometimes this works.
2. Need newer version of Photoshop that supports it or compatible graphics program.
i.e. ACDSee, Paintshop pro etc.

JPEGs are quite common... even the app. called 'Imaging' included in Windows can open them. Or is it me misunderstanding your problem...?
