Hey all. I have a problem with some files I'm downloading. They're all ASX files and when I open them there's no sound. Instead it tells me that I'm missing an audio codec. Each files' audio codec that's missing is different. One is 272, another is 7405, another is 2321. I have no idea how to fix this so I could have sound for all files.
I hope someone here can help me. Thank you!

Install (or reinstall) Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player

Thanks so much for answering me. Well, I d/l it and it still doesn't work. Now what? sad.gif((

Hmm, are you trying to play them with Real Alternative?

An ASX file is just a pointer to another media file, it’s just a playlist.  For the most part ASX files will point to WMA, WMV, or ASF content. (They can be opened in Notepad to get the web link)

Unless there is an error in the playlist, downloading windows media codecs will fix the problem like Euromix said:

*Also, good idea reinstall DirectX.

Downloaded, still no go. Maybe there is an error, or maybe it's my computer. I don't know.

Maybe seeing one of the files would help? http://archive.nu/oz/media/rykboytk.asf

I hope it works...lol. Thanks!

Well does make it easy when provide the ASF link. Next time just open file in WMP or MPC which will give you more details about missing codec and take you to WMplugins website. Looks like need Voxware metasound plugin:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/VoxWar...Audio_CoDec.htm

Instructions:
extract to temp folder. Right-click INF file. Install.

*tested and working using Windows Media Classic and WMP 10. wink.gif

I downoaded it, but I cant open or install it
I only could extract it but doensnt really help
whats wrong
chp
As Mischcabob wrote in instruction:
-Extract to a temp. folder
-Right-click the file "voxacm.inf"
-Select "Install"

Then good to restart system.
If this doesn't help, probably not the VoxWare Audio Codec is the one that's missing....
