Somebody please help! I am deperate, and even have paid $ to microsoft techsupport, but no reply yet.

I cant get wmp10 or any of the other players to play wmv files at all. they can play mpeg or avi files just fine. when i look at the info provided by gspot, there is no information for audio path, and the error is that some of the streams are not supported. so i am thinking that there is an error with the audio codec. the error from wmp10 is C00D1199 which is that i might be missing a codec.

zoom player and mplayer classic can play the files with video but without sound. otherwise i get sound from the speakers for other file types and from winxp in general.

wmp, neroplayer, windowmovie maker, realplayer (before i uninstalled it) would not play the file at all.

wmp6.4 can play it with sound!

so i am trying to follow the advice in the pinned topic and trying to remove all the codecs and then reinstall just the ones i need hoping to solve the problem.

how do i remove codecs? and then reinstall them. or should i be doing something different.

i have installed
radlight filter manager
regshell

i have recently uinstalled and reinstalled
wmp10
wmp codecs
wmp 6.4
zoom player
gspot
sherlock
ffdshow
avicodec

I need to fix the problem so I can start using windows movie maker and nero again, which seem to rely on some underlying functionality. otherwise i would just junk wmp.

aaaaahhhhaahahah.....

thanks in advance

here is error from gspot:
DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format.

The following combination of filters were used:

{C:\Documents and Sett..-..os\ArthritisVideo.WMV} (Video Source)
{ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder} (Video Decoder)
{Video Renderer} (Video Renderer)

Apparently C00D1199 error code is the “We’re not really sure what’s wrong” error code. rofl.gif

Maybe the file name is too long. Or maybe the ID3 tag is too long, or who knows. Try deleting the ID3 tag to fix the problem. Use winamp, MPC, sound editor or other music player to do this. WMP doesn't like non-compliant or corrupted music files. wink.gif

other computers at home or work play the file fine with wmp, so i don't think its the file. i used to be able to play it just fine on this computer. wmp6.4 can play it. somehow i believe it is related to configuration of the audio codec.

on a side note, i got a reply from microsoft that said:
"According to my understanding, WMV files cannot be played in Windows Media Player. An error code C00D1199 appears. This file can be properly on anther computer.

If I am not accurate in my understanding of this case, please feel free to correct me."

jeez, this is from their paid technical support. what a joke.

I suggested something non-standard with file (several sources have similar issue) it points to something with the file that WMP doesn't support. i.e. iD3 tag, codec used for compression, corrupted header etc.

According to Microsoft support site:
QUOTE
Why do I receive error code C00D1199 when I try to play a file?

Unlike error code C00D1197, which is caused by network connection or URL problems, this error occurs when there is a problem with the file itself. Common reasons for this error include:

- The file is corrupted (although, in this case, you're more likely to see error code C00D080D).
- The file type is not supported by Windows Media Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by the Player, see article 316992, "Windows Media Player multimedia file formats," in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. This Web page also provides sample files for most of the multimedia file types that Windows Media Player supports, and discusses what you can do if you still can't play the file.
-  The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player. For more information about correcting codec issues, see the "Codecs for Windows Media Player" column in our Media Advice Archive.
-  The file type is supported, but you are trying to play it in a way that is not supported by the Player. For example, you might have tried to drag a DVD file with a .vob extension from a DVD to the Windows Media Player icon. Or you might have tried to open a .vob file by clicking Open on the File menu.
- You are trying to play one part of a multipart file. Use a newsreader or other program to combine the files, and then try again.

If you can't play any windows media video or audio files, then you might want to start fresh. Usually installing latest DirectX 9C, WMP10 (with windows media codecs), and DirectShow will play most of the media files. GSPOT normally tells you what audio/video filetype/mime the container uses. If FFDSHOW doesn't work (according to rendering), try identifying the audio decoder that windows player 6.4 or MPC uses. cool.gif

Mischcabob,

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. smile.gif

I installed gspot on another xp computer and played the offending files fine. It showed the render information as:

(s)->asf icm handler->windows media video decoder->®
(s)->asf acm handler->windows media audio decoder->®

On my computer that does not work gspot shows
(S) --> [VFW: Windows Media Video Decoder] --> Color Space Converter --> ®
blank for audio codec.

I have followed this procedure to reinstall audio codecs
http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to_i...ows_XP_2000.htm

i only reinstalled the audio codecs, should i be doing anything else? unsure.gif

i tried to install winamp but could not figure out how to delete id3tag, but i contend that the files are not corrupt b/c they play fine othe other xp computers.

Well ... if they work ok on other XP computers than maybe it's time to reintall Windows XP ? huh.gif biggrin.gif

I usually have to reinstall it every year or so ... cuz Windows $uck$

Well, this looks complicated... rolleyes.gif
There were advices by Mischcabob... have you checked the audio codec that wmp 6.4 or MPC uses (which plays fine..)? And I would look for broken codecs (Windows Media Audio?) in Sherlock's report. Also in GSpot.

If you're using FFDShow for decoding video (set in FFDSHow->Configuration) you could try to set it for audio as well (in Audio filter configuration: WMA1/7 & 2/8 - libavcodec).
