hi all just became a member a few mins ago.

I don't know much about computers,so here it goes:-

how would one know if windows 98se is compressed or not, the reason why i ask is the pc i got is from a friend of mine who builds them,(second hand ones) im thinking of changeing my OS from windows 98se to XP,but my friend cannot remember if he compressed it or not,so how would i know?

If it has been compressed, does this mean i can't change my OS?

I'm not sure what you mean by "compressed", and what ever you mean by it it doesn't matter. If you install a new OS it complete formats your HDD and you start out new. Just rember to back-up your files because after you install Windows XP the only thing that will be on it is WIndows XP (None of your old files.. until you put them back on. happy.gif).

P.S. Since I love it I'm going to suggest it: Once you get more tech savvy you should maybe try looking into Linux- it offers a lot more then Windows, such as freedom, but if I were you I would wait and keep it in my mind for the future...
