I tried to filter out only the most often used ones, but its just too many =)

Please make your comments.

P.S. These did not fit:
MCP
CTOS
AIS
OS/2
SunOS
IRIX
anyway, im too sleepy to type more. If u have one i did not mention, go ahead and post it.

Please, if u can vote on a poll, dont post anything here like "LINUX RULEZOR" or stuff which explains why you chose it. This should be of a pure survey =)

Regards,
Tim.

EDIT: If you have more then one, dont choose the one you like best, choose the one you use MOST. =)
Mischcabob
Nice list. Could have narrowed it down to 5 (desktop systems) and grouped some together. Most people on this forum are not that tech-saavy anyway.

OOps.. forgot to mention I mostly use Mac OS 9.2 on PowerPC G4s networked together at work (HATE IT!) Of course, if I was using latest OS 10.3...it might tell a different story. unsure.gif

I have used Suse, Open Linux... but I grew up on Windows-based systems so vote goes to Windows XP PRO.

Why?
very stable, abundance of software, user friendly, small learning curve,
hardware support, familiar graphics GUI

Cheers cool.gif
VaskoSoftware
Ok, next time ill narrow "whatever im doing" down =)

I'm currently Using Windows, mainly for compatability and ease of use for the rest of the family.

I'd like to give different Linux Distros a try just to build up my own personal knowledge smile.gif
Flyer
I use windows for my regular machines, however I have a server that runs Linux.(Redhat)

I'd use Linux for all my machines but then you have compatibility issues, a lot of games arent made for Linux until later in the developing years, and same goes for all applications.
chp
Yes Windows (and DOS) of course and the reason is the same: compatibility.

Where are all the linux freaks?

They are coming... biggrin.gif

But can you imagine this situation:
You're trying to install an EA (Electronic Arts) game and getting an error message:

"This program cannot be run in Windows mode" blink.gif biggrin.gif

I can't and PC games are really important at all...
VaskoSoftware
EA = retards. Someone should kill all of those blood suckers! Please dont EVER buy their games!

Please tell me, would u rather play Ubisoft games (think Spliter Cell, Rainbow 6 etc.) or some game that EA bought, and crap in every hole possible (and impossible) ?

EDIT: Btw, EA doesnt give a crap about you. All it cares about is how much cash it's sittin on.

POST EDITED FOR INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT!
chp
Okay okay biggrin.gif i don't like EA too, but those games are very popular.
And this was only an example wink.gif

Windows OS is easy but not powerfull
KillerJ59J
I use Windows normally, because of compatibility issues, but I love Linux... I have it on my other computer, really easy to get the hang of and very stable... i wish Microsoft wasn't such a monoply then id switch...

tellin' u bill gates needs to die... *looks around* whos job is that?
deso
I use windows OS but I think Linux is more powerfull.

I'm using win xp pro on my desktop, as my hardware wasn't working with linux last time I checked. Well maybe it would have worked, but after 4 days with a not fully working computer, soundcard-wise, I decided to switch back to windows. As I have changed my soundcard by now I'll switch to Linux as soon as I get my next virus/trojan/worm/whatsoever.

Our server is running a Debian-distro.

If you want to try Linux without actually installing it check out the Knoppix live-CD which is a complete Linux-distro (DEbian + KDE3) running from a CD.
Despite the warnings on the homepage I have never suffered a loss of data but it _can_ happen, so back up your important stuff if you give it a try.
There is Ubuntu as well, but I have no experience with that one.

If the only reason for not switching to linux are the games and you are willing to pay a monthly fee (about 5,- $, I think) Cedega might do the trick for you.

Microsoft products are just for newbies wink.gif
VaskoSoftware
deso, you are talking nonsense.

First of all, what power are looking for in an Operating System? Windows has got everything there is to it.

Second, Linux is not more powerfull, there is no "power" in an operating system. Linux is just a good way for microsoft-haters to get back at microsoft. Sort of. And it's got style and a better network compatibilty (flaws rolleyes.gif ).

Windows is also not for newbi..s. All professional bussinesses use windows, microsoft got money, money is power, power... well, here is your power.

I use windows, and I would definately not call myself a newbi, in whatever you have to offer me. I've done it all (almost... im not a big network guy =) )

Ok, are microsoft employees newbies? I dont think they are. So, are you trying to tell me they use linux? Or mac while programming high-end technology?

Oh Oh!! What about the programmers who use DirectX API to write their 3d graphics??? directX is a microsoft product (i think it runs on mac, but nobody uses macs, except for like one guy here rolleyes.gif sry X) ).

I dont think half-life 2 was written on a Mac LOL, not on linux either (duh) and what about doom 3? Or... i am rather not sure (not 100% sure it was written on windows) but quake engines were written on windows (even though they compile on linux and others, thats due to opengl.. YAY).

Please think about it.

Tim

I agree with you 100% Vasko smile.gif

Hmmmmmmm I bet you use a Microsoft just about everyday too. So you just called your self a newbie rofl.gif
chp
Yeah, then I'm a newbie (and have a MS mouse-pad too) biggrin.gif
VaskoSoftware
Thanks lazyboy =)

lol, whomever uses windows should definately not consider themselves a newbe. Ease of use isn't the same as program for newbes. U want something not for newbies? Try dos... old, but i guarantee it will keep u busy for a while rofl.gif

lol, good ol' days. I was a kid, had to call my parents every 15 mins just to give me a hint how the hell i start a game from a floppy =)

well, have fun with that.

I think Windows is the most common OS in our days, especially Windows XP.
By the way, what do you think about new Windows Vista?
