Hi all.

It could very well just be me and nothing else. So, What is it I'm not doing that I need to do to get QuickTime Alt to work? I'm using Firefox and I'm on full cable internet.

I simply downloaded and installed the prog, which seems to be nothing more than a tweaked mplayer2, which is fine by me. I'm already a fan of mplayer, which I had on my desktop, but which I rarely use since I have so many other players I prefer, such as my most regular player, winamp 2.95.

Anywho, When I click on Apple's movie trailers (which no longer work with any but their latest QuickTime player), I just get pop up boxes that urge me to install Apple QuickTime (which I couldn't even do when I tried it the one time). I simply have no desire to download Apple's bundled player. Someone elsewhere suggested I use vlc, but didn't explain to me how to. I already use vlc, which is a great player.

Not another Quicktime alt problem.

When you installed latest Quicktime Alternative, did you install the quicktime plugin for mozilla Firefox/Netscape?
Once installed, you can configure filetypes, cache and if you want it to automatically load.

On Apple site, just matter of picking screen size and quality (small/med/large) for the trailer and it will load the movie in the browser.
Also, if you don't want to play in browser, you can also save the source (MOV file) to your hard drive and just play it using MPC.

Others told me to just download and install the program, period. Maybe this is why I'm not having success. Regarding the plugin: What?, Where?, How? Remember, If I knew, I wouldn't have to bother folks.

Actually, I must have a plugin that does that, since I do that very thing at the Tribute site which I'm about to go to from now on for all of my movie trailers. Nothing external is launched. I see the window - in the browser, I guess - just start playing the video.

And I have no idea what MPC is, although it can't be more versatile than vlc, which I already have. But then, What do I know?

I don't appreciate Microsoft's digital rights management. But I guess that "is like" might mean that it isn't exactly like. I would assume that the player bundled with QT Alt just does what it advertizes it does and does not do nasty things.

Well. The plugin was all I needed. I'm surprised no one else told me. Either that or it just whizzed past me. Of course, There's not much plain English explanation happening, as usual.

I thought of visiting the Mozilla site the other day, which I did. I had a quick look but saw nothing. Can't remember where I looked exactly.

What is the difference between this plugin and the player from Apple's site, besides the fact that I didn't seem to pick up Itunes software? Not that it matters. I plugged in the plugin, tried it out and it's fine.

Yes, just right-click on Quicktime movie.. SaVE As source or SAve as quicktime movie.
You can use MPC or other directshow player to view the MOV file. Unlike VLC, you need external 3rd party codecs like Quicktime Alternative to make it work.

Remember windows media player 6.4 from WIN95/98 days? Simple, light player...but adds powerful front end to play more formats.
Actually DRM is only integrated in WMP9/10, not in Media Player Classic.

You can use Apple's full blown version (Quicktime player) if you want to do more then just play media. It is quite bloated and there is adware/spyware associated with it. Itunes is the other bloated media player and manager.. serving as a portal to its online store.
