I HAVE BEEN USING 1CLICKCOPY TO COPY MY DVD'S AND RAN INTO RIPLOCK!
THE DMA SETTINGS ARE OK, I GUESS IT'S THE DVD- CDRW COMBO THAT WENT INTO
RIPLOCK. IT IS A LITE-COMBO LTC-48161H .
IS THERE A CODEC OR SOME TYPE OF FIRMWARE TO GET AROUND IT?
IT USED TO TAKE 20 TO 25 MINUITS TO COPY NOW IT TAKES WELL OVER
AN HOUR!

Please don't post all in caps!

If you do not get a response here in "Hardware", or an admin does not move this thread to another topic heading, you may have to repost there.

Though hardware related, the character and operation of media specific firmware, drivers, codecs, etc. is well outside my knowledge base, and I think outside the range of general hardware questions.

I can guess the meaning of "riplock" but am unfamiliar with 1clickcopy and with LTC-48161H, though Lite-On is at least not unheard of. In fact, if you want to try some self help, you will find 30 or so hits with a Google search for [ 1clickcopy lite-on ]. Some of the threads and comments there might give you ideas for cleaning up your operation.

Such as making sure you are only using one decoder at a time (wtf?) and have the latest Lit-On firmware. Yeah, there seems to be an update - have you checked the Lite-On site to see if it applies to your device?

BTW, I am in travel status, so HELP. I may be out of town for 10 to 40 days, it's just not clear yet.

Unfortunately, that drive comes with RIPLOCK. Kind of a deterrent for ripping DVDs and slows it down drastically.

As posted on Afterdawn website...........

Riplock is a feature that has been added to newer computer DVD Drives and it seems to deter users from ripping large DVD Video collections to Hard Disk Drives due to the way it works.

Basically it works by slowing down the data transfer rate when reading DVD-Video data, much less noise comes from the drive as a result which is a good point. Usually it would slow a drive capable of 8x or 16x read speeds to 2x or 4x. It does not prevent ripping however, just makes it less convenient. In some cases, firmware flashing is all that is needed to remove this feature from a DVD Drive.

You can try getting latest firmware, but most firmware updates just help with media compatibility issues.

If it's not too late, I personally would consider getting a different drive. wink.gif
