I am having major problems playing video files in Windows 64. The files studdern randomly sometimes i can watch for 20 minutes and nothing . THen it will studder every 15 seconds.

These same files work fine on Windows XP 32bit.

Does anyone have a fix for this by chance?

Telling us some of your system specs may help, like amount of RAM, processor speed, and graphics card.

On a 64-bit system, especially a system running Win (the ultimate resource hog), you need a lot of RAM or stuff like this is likely to happen. I've also heard that the drivers for 64-bit Win are messed up, so I would try updating all your drivers and maybe reinstall all your codecs too. The video card drivers are critical, especially if it is random stuttering, so find and install the newest drivers. Other than that, kinda need more info to say if one cause is more likely than the other. Like if you have less than 1 GB of RAM, that may be the cause, or if you have an old or badly maufactured (ATI) video card with less than 64 MB of memory.

If running WINXP 64bit edition, you should meet min specs. Did you get all 64bit drivers for your hardware? Many 32bit apps will work in emulation mode, but won't take advantage of increased mem space.

1. Identify the media files and formats you are having problems.
2. Update sound, display drivers
3. TRy to find 64bit codecs i.e. XVID, FFDSHOW etc.
4. Seek support from 64bit community. Some of my fav sites I bookmark:

Running AMD 4400 Dual Core Processor
2gb of PC3200 Ram ( 4 x 512)
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe Motherboard with all win 64 Bit Drivers..


I read somewhere else people had this problem because of their hard drives and they enabled Write Disc Cacheing. Well I already had that enabled and I am using a SATA Maxtor Hard Drive.

Looks like your specs are not the problem ... do what Mischcabob says and udate all your drivers ... Windows drivers are in general not the best to say the least, so I would reccomend you find 64-bit drivers from the manufacturer of each component if possible.

and H TexMex I went to ASUSs website downloaded all the new drivers for x64 then went to Nvidia and got the x64 drivers for my video card.

STill no luck Xvid movies still studder..

If the new divers don't work get the newest XVid codec for 64-bit:

Note, there have been problems with this codec on 64-bit systems that have been recently "fixed", so getting the latest codec may help.

Nice system. So you tried the latest beta binary of XVID? Some users have also compiled it for 64bit here.
However, it won't make a lot of difference since the players are still 32bit.

UPDATE:
Nvidia released tweaked driver to fix PCI latency in order to avoid PCI bus choking. It helps optimize performance and resolve stuttering and sound issues. Might apply to you?
