Hello

I am trying to view a movie of "mov" type. When opening with Quicktime, I get an error message saying that a required compressor could not be found in my computer. There is no indication about the name of the required compressor. The audio in the movie works, but I get a blank screen.
I have other "mov" videos that have no such problem.

I am using quicktime version 6.5.2, with all updates for this version, but cannot upgrage to the newest version because I am running win98se.

Please let me know where I can find quicktime compressors or maybe other players that might work, also, is there a way to check for corrupted file ?

Thank you

First, try re-installing your Quicktime Player. Windows Media Player will only play version 2 and earlier MOV files, you probably have one encoded with a later version. If reinstalling Quicktime doesn't work try "Quicktime Alternative" player, make sure you get the win98 version.

Quicktime Alternative

The most probable reason is that the video is compressed with the "new" H.264 codec, found at QuickTime 7.
Both packages, the official Apple one and the latest QuickTime Alternative are only for Windows XP mad.gif

Your only way to verify its integrity is playing it in another computer...

QT7 is only available for win2k and winXP, yea.
The thing you could try on win98:

Install
Haali MP4/Matroska Splitter
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Haali_...ka_Splitter.htm

FFDShow (and set it to decode H.264 with libavcodec)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

QT Alternative 1.54 (the one for win98) with Media Player Classic
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickT...Alternative.htm

Then rename the MOV to MP4 and open with MPC.
