Greetings to you all,
(first post demands even more tact and politeness)
I have but a simple question;
Is it possible to convert a .mkv file to an .avi file?

This so happens because of two particular circumstances.
I have gotten hold of a .mkv file from KAA fansub. It got my attention because of the video quality, but, alas, it has dual audio (and it being an anime I definitly won´t be watching it in english sad.gif ), so I´d miss one of the two audio samples. Other thing is, it wouldn´t play on the divx player I got.
I was wondering if any of you gurus out there could sort me this little bugger...

A bit off topic now, would you know how to get the update for the Hyundai Hu-Div-3899 ? I went over hell and back again finding it some firmware updates, burned them into a cd, plucked ´em into the divx player and voila! I had to get a new one (well, I said it didn´t work so they gave me another one of the same).
Anyway, would the KISS player be able to play all formats ? (I´d be happy with Ogg and Mkv...)

Thank you for your time and excuse me if I stretched my lines a bit tongue.gif (Anyway it´s a quarter to four in the morning, I´ve got an exam month coming starting next week, a home party to organize for new year´s eve, and two works for a major... And all I wanna do is to sort out my anime collection properly yahoo.gif )

Hello Darcia!

I'm not sure but i think you should try MediaCoder. It has support for many formats...

Hello.

Don't know if you looked up the extenstion, but this is what I got.

The Offical Site from the makers.

That page more or less tells you what it is. It's not a codec to keep it short, so I don't believe that you can convert it.

On the Download Page they give you a few things to help you use the file.

Good luck with everything.

Thank you for you help... I downloaded Media Coder, but appareantly one it finishes the project, the files are nowhere to be found huh.gif

Although I´ve read about the mkv files, I still don´t understand it very well... As a wrapper, does the video file come as an, for example, avi file while the audio comes as mp3? (Actually, this doesn´t make sense... Avi is a wrapper too, right? )
The only reason I´d want it to be avi would be to make it readable with a divx player. But this seems a bit of a difficult (and time consuming) process... Can´t the audio and the video be extricated from inside the mkv wrapper then saved as an avi?

Once again, thank you for your time...
And please do excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject... I´m only learning, after all smile.gif

to extract audio you can use goldwave!

Check the properties of the program to see where it saved your files.

Also, did you check the download page to see if you already had a player for the file, or get a player for the files since splitting it ,as you have said, takes up so much time???
Darcia
I wouldn´t mind it taking too much time... I´d just do it one by one smile.gif

Anyway, it has nothing to do with the program setup. I tried saving the files to the desktop, then to Documents, then Documents/my video. No change. No files.

I think I´m going to give up on it. Thank y´all for your support, you´ve all been wonderful.

Cheers, and a happy 2006!
