Full Version: Clustering?!??
I am not new to the field of encoding, but I am getting sick of the ammount of time it takes to encode video. Does anyone know of encoding software that could cluster the 5 pentium 4's on my LAN for 1 encode job? Vidomi claimes to be able to work but my goal is to convert mpeg4 or divx to mpeg2. Even being able to cluster a mpeg2 to mpeg4 would be helpful.
Maybe get faster computer or look into dual/quad CPUs in a cluster configuration. My Athlon 64 3000+ only takes an hour using MainConcept to encode a typical DIVX movie to MPEG2 (DVD). There are faster ones out there, but I'm satisfied with its performance. 
Not sure about software that works with multiple clusters, but they have software optimized using SSE2/3, 3dNOW instruction code. More 64bit software is being available all the time.

There is an app for network video encoding, I had tried it out running on my lan and it does a decent job, If I remeber correclty it breaks the recode down into parts and send these out to the remote proc's, when completed it reassembles the peices. Only problem I see with this appraoch is tha you (I think) would lose the benefit of any type of prediction beyond the individual clip, so your recodes will still be fine, but I would think that it will be closer to discrete bit rate rather than a true variable.
I have looked around again for it, but I can't seem to parse the google search correctly. But It does exist, I can tell you that much. It came from some university. That's the best help I can give you, plus my experience with it.

Thank You! That is basically what im looking for. but yes there are a total of 5 p4's + my p3 firewall on my gigabit lan.
