Hi, I'm a relative newbie and I have just upgraded my PC to an AMD 64 bit dual-core processor on the basis that I should be able to do more stuff while rendering video in the bckground. In principle this is happening just fine but since the upgrade all my MP3s and mpg videos are behaving strangely. They mostly play too fast and "skip" a lot. I have installed XP Codec Pack 1.3 (I selected what appeared to be the most appropriate ones) but with no improvement. Anyone offer any advice please??
My basic system is as follows:
Asus A8V DeLuxe motherboard
AMD 64 bit dual-core processor 2GB
2GB RAM
Sony 16x dual layer DVD burner
LG 16x DVD burner (required for reading/editing DVD RAM discs from my VCR/DVD combo)
Nvidia 6600 video card
Creative SoundBlaster USB Digital Music box (external - also use with my notebook when travelling)
80 GB HDD with Win XP Pro SP2 and all programs installed
40 GB HDD reserved for all downloads (MP3, program updates, Codecs, drivers, utilities, etc)
120 GB HDD for data storage (music, photos, docs, etc)
200 GB HDD for video files
I use Media Centre 10 from J River as my MP3 player (also tried Win MP 10 but playback was even worse) and use Media Player Classic for video stuff other than DVDs (DivX, mpg, etc).
Previous to the upgrade all played fine with the same set-up except that I initially had an AMD Athlon 64 bit single core processor in the PC.
I am assuming that it is a Codec issue but am obviously open to other suggestions as it is frustrating the hell out of me - love to listen to music while working.
All other programs function fine and the PC is great with background video rendering whilst allowing me to do other stuff without having to watch the grass grow!!

Try adding an app called ReClock to your system. It will allow you either adpat manually or automtically to the correct timings. It works great on multi monitor systems as well. It is freeware, but to get kernel streaming it does need to be registered. Though it runs great without the kernel streaming capablility.

luck,

(ps. I basically have the same system, asus a8v deluxe wifi, 4x200 gb western digitals, ati 9800 pro 128 (fireGL modded), 1 gb corsairs {2x512) and an amd64 3500+. Have dual monitors. My system is oc'ed to about 2510 ghz and runs great, the corsairs are only pc3200 (400 mhz rated) but run at 480 rock solid. I still run the old BigFoot modded bios as I got the board in the first revision with pci locks available from asus at the time. Haven't updated the bios as there just isn't any real reason to. :} 3dmark 6600

Hi Topcat 139, you're a lifesaver!! Did as you said and ReClock has fixed the problems. I upgraded the Bios, loaded all the latest drivers and codecs galore with no luck at all. This program is a little gem.
Many thanks for the advice and have a great 2006.
