Hey guys,

I installed k-lite normal for the first time the other day because i can never leave well-enough alone lol. I read the instructions but misunderstood them a bit and didn't realize that many of my program specific codecs would be deleted.

I've fixed 99% of my problems now(including uninstalling k lite and reinstalling it only with the video codecs) but i cannot seem to get my windows default sounds back. The best examples of this are..

1-I dont hear the windows start up and sign off sounds.
2-In ventrilo, a VoiP program, i dont hear the key clicks or wave files letting me know ive changed channels.
3-mirc i dont hear the normal sign on beeps.

These aren't huge deals, but i just can't figure out how to fix it. In ventrilo if i turn on all my "use directsound" options the key clicks will work again, but without that checked they refuse to work(where they always had before i installed k-lite).

I have tried to go into add hardware and reinstall all the MS audio codecs with no luck...Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

System Sounds are missing:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_USERS. If it doesn't have a Data entry in the right pane that reads: (value not set), double click (Default) and delete it. If it does, check your HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21 keys for the same.

System and Application Sounds are distorted after running a game:

Boot into safe mode, shut down. Then boot normally.

How to Boot into Safe Mode:

You need to hit F8 during boot, just after the BIOS info switches to black screen.

Or...

Go to Start/Run/Msconfig. Boot.Ini and check off /SafeBoot. Apply/Ok, reboot.

Thx for the reply. I tried all those reg fixes with no luck. I still can't hear any of the sounds listed above.

Another thing i didn't mention is that my volume icon is the sys tray has gone missing at the same time. I've tried all normal steps to get this back(control panel etc...) with no luck. K-lite really has it out for my comp...
