"I downloaded the FREE 'K-LITE standard and full' and quicktime alternative packs.After the download completion the icon was of the nature of ....'OPEN with wat?'

Well what extensions do the files have? They could be invalid shortcuts or groups from old programs you uninstalled. Try unhiding the file extensions if you haven't done so. If they are indeed valid self-extracting EXE files then you just run them.

If downloaded a RAR or ZIP file, then just use WINZIP/WINRAR to extract it to a temporary folder.

Thanx for the reply.It was indeed a extension problem.I just renamed the file to .exe...PROBLEM SOLVED!
