Hi

I bought my PC with WINDOWS 98SE & HAUPPAUGE WINTV WIN-THEATER card (BT848 chip-based I think) a few years ago.

I've always used the VIDEO FORMAT 352x288 to capture AVIs (it's the standard for UK/EUROPEAN based TV).

I recently changed the OPERATING SYSTEM of this PC from WINDOWS 98SE to WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL EDITION.

I was shocked to see that my 352x288 VIDEO FORMAT is no longer included in my WINTV software when trying to capture AVIs. The next best I can use is 384x288.

I really want my 352x288 format back as I also use direct MPEG capture software (such as ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO 9) before but won't let me do a 352x288 PAL format MPEG capture cos this is not in my system anymore.

I tried downloading WINTV latest updates but still no 352x288 VIDEO FORMAT.

So my question is how can I fix this problem?

Another problem with my WIN-THEATER after adjusting to XP is that I think the AUDIO captured with the AVI seems to sound a little QUIETER (in term of volume) even when I JACK-UP the Volume Control. My AUDIOCARD is AUREAL VORTEX 8830 (QUAD SPEAKERS 4.1 Channel).

Also, how do I beat the 2GB limit on AVI capture, especially UNCOMPRESSED? If I capture less than 2GB
UNCOMPRESSED, it's playable but that's only about 3 mins! If I capture the AVI bigger than 2GB it's
unplayable/can't be opened my any software!

Another problem occurred when I installed some video editing software then unstalled them. I originally had the MPEG-4 codec in my system including the video capture software. but after I unstalled these software, I notice the MPEG-4 codec is GONE! I can't remember which software I installed/uninstalled before there were so many at the time! I went to MICROSFT's website & download a thing called WM9Codec but this only let me watch MPEG-4 based AVIs .. it won't let me make new ones. Encoding software such as TMPENC will not open MPEG-4 based AVIs because it is UNSUPPORTED!

Finally, I have VFW capture drivers in my system at the moment. Do I need WDM drivers aswell? Which is better or do I need both? Many new video capture software requires WDM drivers (eg INTERVIDEO & CYBERLINK stuff) but when I install WDM, the picture from my TV card turns BLACK & WHITE!?

CHEERS!.

The problem , as I understand it, Is that XPpro, when It first installs, assume that you are setting up on a US box, You may need to check with M$ newsgroups as well on this, but if you try reinstalling and watch for the "localization" part (code page, tim, date, etc) and set up for Europe locations, this may tell setup wizard that you run in Europe, and force it to adjust to the video standards for that area. Also check for a PAl capable video player/editor and read its documentation for guidance on its settings.
