Just UNRAR it by using winrar.Every WIN user has this app. After that it will brobably be an ISO. Burn onto disc. Then LOGOFF. Put the disc into the drive and reboot. You will then be able to run Linux directly from the disc,if you have the evaluation copy. I am just assuming this .If not true-where did you get it from. You should really visit Mandrake site for an evaluation copy if you have gotten this elsewhere. biggrin.gif

Look in my Software board thread, which has a name "How to burn an ISO" or something like that, it has posts about what software u could use.

Here is where u get winrar:

Good luck.

Recommend going to FTP site for free downloadable ISO images.
Burn ISOs directly to disc.. no need to extract them.
You will require 3- 80 min CDR blank discs.

You can "sample" Mandrake Linux, but I suggest you do some research on it since it can be quite daunting if you are a "newbie." wink.gif

Recommend using an ftp client i.e. cuteftp, FlashFXP, WS FTP etc. but you can use your browser if you want.

Hello,
Well done for a quick response.
Have taken the download off this site so i presume it is eval copy.
Problem is i unrared it and it still is not in an iso file that can be burnt then booted.
looks to me as though i have downloaded the install that i must place in hard drive to install off.
I would just like to try the software and if i like it will buy it.
Have i lost the plot or what sad.gif

Hello Mischcabob,
Many thanks for that reply.am downing now so fingers crossed.

Will try this in the morn

NP. cool.gif Linux comes in many flavours or distos. This robust OS is FREE as downloadable images, so there is NO trial/evaluation version.

This is not a type of OS you can just learn overnight. Good idea to have Windows in a multi-boot configuration. Most people will invest in the retail version which includes 100s of apps and full documentation... Unfortunately, with downloadable ISOs you are pretty well much on your own.

Good luck!
