I use all of these components. I noticed QTA and RA install their Media Player Classic players in C:\Program Files\Media Player Classic\. K-Lite Codec Pack has its own too but it goes where-ever I install it.

My problem is file associations, rendering errors, etc. Which player should I use? How can I keep only ONE. I use Windows XP Pro. SP2 (all updates).

Thank you in advance. smile.gif

Yes, this is a good point and it brings up a similar question. Because the K-Lite Codec Pack does not always have the latest version of MPC, where to copy and paste the new version from SourceForge to the existing installation.

1. To where QA/RA installs it
2. To where K-Lite installs it

Now this is a quite good example of codec packs' weaknesses.
You install the codec pack, it configures MPC and associates with browser, DirectShow.... etc., then install QTA or RA and at that point, your computer is already messed up.

If you really(!) need codec packs, can choose K-Lite Mega Codec Pack which includes QTA and RA in1.

Alternatively, you can choose to install a K-Lite Pack, and the LITE version of RA, which includes the codecs only, not MPC. QTA can be also installed without MPC, just deselect it during installation.

Is K-Lite Mega Codec Pack always updated when QTA and RA release its latest versions though? I don't think it is updated often as Full version. sad.gif

I never use codec packs I just download only codes I will need just don't see point of Installing K-Lite Codec Pack.

Yes, not that often. I think once a month or so. But that's usually enough.

You're absolutely right Oleg and we also keep telling this all the time. However, there are people preferring codec packs (until they don't experience problems...) and I can take their point as well.

Then, why have K-Lite Codec Packs? I like them so I don't have to search, download, and update one by one.
