Did you try to activate Windows XP firewall? If not, try this:

1. Start > Control Panel > Network Connections, right-click on Broadband connection (of course, connection type and name may vary) and select Properties from menu;
or right-click on Local Area Connection icon from taskbar's tray area, select Status and click Properties button
2. On the connection properties select the Advanced tab and then check the checkbox smile.gif

However, to avoid prompts asking for install Gator or other craps, you have to Disable all ActiveX controls and plugins from Security Settings menu. I use to select Prompt only for signed ActiveX controls smile.gif

Easy way is to avoid using I.E. that uses ActiveX. I switched to Firefox 8 months ago and never get nasties, popup windows, spyware etc. Works well with NOD32 antivirus and ZA PRO (with web filtering) as well.

Yes, you can use Windows Firewall, but it's quite basic and is very limited. Just remember if disable ActiveX (javascript), you will lose some functionality with many websites so it's not a "perfect" solution.

I am agree with that even deepnet $uck$ for this problem. I used it and it says it does give you protection but for some websites its just waste..
