I installed the k-lite pack, and it killed media playback for almost all of my movies. Colors are totally whacked out, portions of the video don't update and then snap back to normal, etc. I uninstalled k-lite, that didn't help. I tried to install the standard divx codecs to hopefully overwrite the bad ones, no go. I even upgraded from media player 10 to 11 hoping that it would overwrite the bad codecs, but no go.

What the heck can I do here? I'd actually like to wipe out every single codec on the computer and return it to microsoft standard so I can start over, but I have no idea how... A complete windows re-install seems a bit overkill and I really want to avoid that, but the klite pack has made my computer pretty much unusable for playing back almost any avi and mpeg/mpg file regardless of codec used.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try to Windows Restore? If already you might have to do a reinstallation of os. Or you could try to install the pack again and then uninstall. Or try to use some sort of system cleaner to check for errors in system. Try Ccleaner or spybot search and destroy. Check to see also under add/remove programs if all codec programs are gone. Also, check to see if K-lite folder is deleted, etc. I don't like K-Lite myself, after uninstall a real player dll was gone? If you are wondering what codec pack I use, I recommend Matroska pack/Ogg direct show filters 0.9.9.6.

Those problems you have are not caused by codecs. It is likely a problem with your graphics card driver or its settings.

Never have problems with Klite except for ocasional broken filter/codec.
Try re-install or use handy Codec Tweak tool (included with K-lite) to reset to recommended settings/fix broken filters.
