Hello everyone!
I have this screencap that I made on another Linux box using xvidcap. I encoded it into the MPEG2 video format. But now that I am on my windows machine I find that I can only play the file. When I try to edit it, it comes out garbled. I used GSpot on it and it tells me that the codecs are not installed.

I currently have the latest FFDshow codec pack installed (ffdshow_rev730_20061230). Thats all I use. My player is VLC player. The program I am trying to use to edit the video is Adobe Premier 2. I also tried to reencode it using TMPGEnc but it gave me an error about a VFW codec.

Go to ffdshow VFW configuration and enable MPEG-2.
