Hi Guys, sorry my english is not so good.
I install Service Pack 2 before 2 days and then I install Zone Alarm Pro but Zone alarm pro don't block anything. Before I install SP 2 zone alarm blocked all the time, but now ZA blocked maybe 1 or 2 things in one day even if i deactivate the firewall from XP.
Can you say me what the problem is???

I think you shouldn't trsut XP SP2 too mauch... If you want some spams or attacks to be blocked just find a another, separate Firewall.

I can recommend Panda AV with own firewall, or Kaspersky Antihacker. Thats my opinion, but you can try other ones too wink.gif

It's recommended install firewall as sonn as it is possible to avoid Spam and Virus attacks smile.gif

Good luck wink.gif

ZA Pro works under WINXP SP2... if you installed it properly. Usually have to go through the wizard upon install. Hopefully you disabled antivirus/WINXP firewall at beginnning.

Possible that ZA pro is working in silent mode... only alerts you for high alerts. How many blocked intrusions does it say under Overview?

Make sure you have at least ZA 5.1x (5.5 is latest) if running WINXP SP2. wink.gif

Ok thank you very much... 56 blocked and 31 high rated
maybe the xp firewall blocks everything and only the highest instructions blocked the ZA

You need to deactivate the Windows XP firewall. It is not a good idea to run more than one firewall due to possible conflicts in configuration. You also should disable the system service related to the XP firewall.

I am still at work (waiting for traffic to subside) - will provide specific instructions when I get home, provided my internet connection is working (my connection died last night). Don't worry about your English - mine is not that great either & it's the only language I know. One of my goals in this forum is to connect with users from other countries so it is my responsibility to communicate in a manner that is understandable to others.

I have used ZA Pro in the past & can give you some web sites with advice on configuration. Personally, I have found firewalls can be difficult to work with, at least for me. Many inexperienced users will disable them rather than take the time needed to learn how to use them.

Take care,

Slim

Like I said you should disable Windows Firewall if you are running ZA. (not good idea to be running both)

Control Panel..Windows Firewall... select off.

Like Slim said...also can disable the local service:
Start menu...Run...type services.msc
Under Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).. click properties (double-click) under Startup type... select manual or disable. (automatic is default)

Have u got the firewall blocking certain ports?
If not here try this then biggrin.gif

Launch ZoneAlarm Pro and click the "security" button.

Now goto the yellow side that shows "local" above it and set it to "high" with the slider in the middle.

Now,click the "customize" button. On the top is the high security settings. The only thing that should have a checkmark next to it is "allow broadcast/multicast". UNCHECK the top two above that. That's finished.

Now, scroll down until you get to the medium security settings area. Check mark ALL the boxes all the way down.

Now, when you get to the bottom area, it asks you for ports for TCP and UDP in and out.

Here are the settings to use:

BLOCK INCOMING UDP PORTS: 1-65535
BLOCK OUTGOING UDP PORTS: 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999, 8082-65535
BLOCK INCOMING TCP PORTS: 1-65535
BLOCK OUTGOING TCP PORTS: 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999, 8082-65535

You can cut and paste the following above. Okay, this side is finsihed!

Now for the blue side which is "Internet", make sure it has also applied here from the local area. If so, you're prepared! Otherwise MAKE SURE you do the same thing for this side as well!

Now click on the "alerts" button. Okay, now click the "advanced" button.

Here's the fun stuff. The tab local info should be shown. If not, click it.

Now select if you want to show your IP addy, hide it altogether or just hide the last three numbers of the number.

You're hidden if someone breaks into you. MAKE SURE you apply the setting!

The settings above will stop incoming ports 1-65535 and block ALL pings, trojans and more.

Thats all ya need to do.
