Hi,

at first thanks to the moderators and members for helping me with my last problems. Finally everything is working fine. Theres one question left: how can I get rid of those black frames when playing Mpegs. They even appear when playing the video on full screen.
Hope you have an advice for me.
Thank you!
Mischcabob
Whole screen is black on some frames in movie?

Maybe Mpg movie has bad frames or encoded improperly.
Tyler
Thanks for answering so soon. The Mpegs are ok. They worked fine with the Ace codecpack. Now I uninstalled Ace and downloaded only codecs I needed. The frames are around the movie ,on all four sides, about a 1/2 to 1 inch. Looks like a pictureframe. I forgot DivX Files look like 16:9 Format, 2 black frames, on top and on the bottom. It was not, when I had the Ace Pack.
Mischcabob
Ok.. so you know about aspect ratios i.e. 4:3 TV and 16:9 widescreen.

Normal to have black bars.. the person who encoded video likely didn't clip/crop the video vertically/horizontally to proper size. Depends on software/codecs you use... some will automatically add black bars or will distort to right aspect ratio. Try altering aspect ratio i.e. derived, source, anamorphic, 16:9, 4:3, custom. Many players like Zoom player will clip video for you.
Tyler
Thanks for your advice. Dont dare to say, but my favorite player is still WMP. Do you know any codec, which can make those black bars dissappear? If not, how can I alter the aspect ratio? Is this in the some kind of mode of the player possibly?
But when Ace played them, there should be some kind of codec or tool to fix it.

Sometimes this seems like science to me.
Tyler
Hi mischcabob,
thank you again for answering. Hope I dont bug you too much with questions. Dont know how to alter the aspect ratio.
Dont you know a codec to get rid of those black bars. I dont wanted to change the player, got WMP.
Thank you!

Topic merged. Please don't start new topic on same subject.
Thanks.

I don't recommend these buggy codec packs. (check out pinned topic) Lot of them don't work well with WMP... that's why I recommend using alternative player like MPC, Zoom player, VLN etc.

You said video had no black bars before? Maybe just a simple setting in player to mask the black areas or distort the picture.

If indeed orig. MPEG does have black around the frame... you would have to re-encode the whole video (takes several hours depending on length/computer speed) If you think it's worth time/effort, I can suggest program to clip/crop the video. wink.gif
Tyler
Hi,
I have read your pinned topic. Thats one of the reason I deinstalled these big packs.
Sorry for placing topic again, will no more happen.
Can you give me a suggestion in what setting of the player I can fix or try to fix the frames?

Thank you for taking time to answer.
Mischcabob
ACE codec likely had filter/plugin that clipped it on playback. Don't know which one since there are dozens installed with that pack.

How big is the file? Personally, I would re-encode to make an DIVX/XVID AVI to reduce the size and clip black areas out.

However, don't want to that... try another codec like K-lite codec pack... or re-install ACE codec and see if you can find out which filter clips the frame. wink.gif
Tyler
Hi mischcabob,
for now Im a little tired. Im happy everythings working, wink.gif with your help. I let you know what type of filter or whatever it is, when I found out.
Thank you.
chp
And you've this error when playing with a different player, not WMP?
You know there are lots of other players available better than WMP which is getting worse and worse....

You don't need to install any codec packs i think. Just and alternative player, VLC, Media Player Classic or BSPlayer.
Have the problem when playing in these players too?
And another option is to try the FFDShow filter in this case.
Tyler
Hi chp,

the ffdshow solved not the problem. When using VLC Player the black bars or frames appear in full sreen mode. It is something in the Ace Mega Codec Pack, but there are so many filters, codecs, plug ins, that its impossible to me to find out, which one I need. At least I dont want to reinstall this monsterpack.
You guys here helped me a lot. wink.gif Everything else is working real fine. biggrin.gif I will let you know if I find a solution.

Thank you!
chp
Well okay then for now, so no ACE megapack wink.gif
