Having a strange problem a friend gave me some .avi files which seem very high video and audio quality however the actual dialogue is incredibly quiet, the background noise and music is perfect levels these are also converted from DVDs. It has happened twice recently and I think I need to update a codec maybe...

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have Xvid codec installed. Please help as I am nervous about installing K-Lite bundles as some people have had major probs.

Those files contain AC3 5.1 audio. If you properly configure the audio decoder, then your problem should go away.

K-Lite works perfectly fine. It even has an option to boost the volume of AC3. Those few people who have troubles with it have screwed things up themselves.
