Hi all

I was hoping someone here can help me. I've download K-lite Codec Pack and the sound on video works but I get no sound on music files when I try and play it in K-lite.

Please Help
thanks
Tyler
Hi,
sometimes it helps to uninstall it and then reinstall. I would say for most users its a good pack, for me it was not working. I had problems to install it. Im using the "Defiler codec pack" ( a smaller one ) and some single codecs. To find out what codecs you need use "G-Spot".

Hi dleigha79! smile.gif

How do you mean: "play it in K-lite" ?
What player do you use for playing music files?
dleigha79
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it didn't work. I usually play my music file in Kazaa by right clicking and selecting "Play/View in theater". The pack is great for the videos b/c i can play videos i was able to before, it's just no sound for my music files. I have Kazaa Lite K++ if that makes a difference.

or

Does any one know of a good audio codec and another good codec pack?

Thanks all your help

I fixed it woohoo!!!!!

I downloaded both Nimo Pack and K-lite pack. I think the K-lite pack has MPEG-4 but I needed MPEG-3 which the Nimo pack has. That's the only audio difference I found between the two.

Thanks all for you help

As a fair warning to other users, perhaps this post should be as sticky?

I have also dealt with this and similar issue using not only Klite but other codec packs as well. I have traced part of the issue down to a codec conflict. What happens is that many times users do not know exactly which codecs to let a codec pack put on their system. Many times users will just leave default choices checked, or worse check and install EVERYTHING.

In the issue of no sound, especially in the use of Kazaa or similar programs it is a codec error due to the Microsoft codecs that get installed. To be more exact, it is due to the codecs that XP and certain other versions of Windows see as "illegal hacks" of the official codecs approved by Microsoft for handling .asf files(this includes codecs handling a variety of different audio formats, and video formats too....such as the "hacked" divx 3.11 alpha codec).

This is a format Microsoft has tried everything in their power to control and keep for their use only. As result, often codec errors can and are caused that will prevent one or more media types from playing properly, even some media types that have nothing even remotely to do with .asf can be messed up by this conflicting codec error.

I've also noticed that XP users who install the Microsoft "digital rights management" update having even more problems to deal with. The situation just gets worse for people who have this XP update installed. Not only will this update prevent codecs that XP sees as "hacks" from working, but it can also make ANY media file on your system that "it" sees as not licensed properly "according to microsoft" invalid and totally unplayable no matter what you try to do to fix the problem. In essence it will "unlicense" these files and your left totally out of luck with no choice but reinstall Windows and also redownload licensed media files again that this "update" for XP hasn't already corrupted.

This is just another of the many methods that Microsoft is trying to push on consumers to supposedly "fight piracy". In effect, it does nothing more than cause problems for users and help to make Microsoft more money by being able to "sell" only media files that "they approve" for use on Windows. Be wary of Longhorn, because when that OS comes out retail some very unpopular changes in what users will be allowed to do with their OS and files will be in full effect.

For those who don't need the Divx 3.x or 4.x codecs for encoding their own created files, my personal recommendation is to install ffdshow instead. It supports playing nearly any form of Divx or Xvid you can throw at it, and does so with the advantage of not being illegal or seen as any sort of "hack" by Microsoft of your computer itself.

Another option would be to simply use the free version of the current Divx codec. The Pro version has virtually no use whatsoever unless you do your own Divx encoding of self created files.

If you do your own Divx encoding and are using a "legit" and "legal" codec to do it with, Dr Divx comes with the full pro version of the Divx codec already included. So, if you do consider buying/using the Pro version of Divx, I'd recommend just buying Dr. Divx. You get a great, fast, and easy to use encoding program and the full pro version of the codec included as a free bonus with it...makes sense to me.

Syntax, there is pinned topic about help installing codecs.

You raise a lot of good points. I always recommend installing only what you need and custom install of codec packs. Many codecs are free under GPL, not considered hacks although some might be reverse-engineered. wink.gif I use the DIVX 5.2 pro version.

I do use Dr Divx pro.. Not bad as far as "all-in-one-encoding" packages go. Lately I have been creating MPEG2 (DVDs) to play on my home player. I will hopefully be getting a MPEG4 compatible DVD player in near future. cool.gif
