I recently downloaded some files that I thought were mp3 music, but no player will recognize them. Each title looks like: "songname-esc.mp3". I wouldn't expect the "esc" to have anything to do with what kind of file it is, since it appears before the period, but perhaps someone will recognize this, because when I did a search on Googol for "esc.mp3", it came up with filenames of lots of different music with that ending, even though I couldn't find out any other information. What I want, of course, is to be able to convert them into regular mp3 files.

They seem to be torrent files. You actually need a torrent client to download them.

Actually, I did download them with a bittorrent program. But the files have the approximately correct size for what the proper mp3 should be. They aren't "torrents", which is just the small file one uses to identify/direct/etc. the torrent download. But they won't play and I can't figure out what they are. I was hoping to find that they are some special, perhaps proprietary, type of sound file that I could convert into a regualar mp3, since I spent all the time and effort (on my slow modem connection) to get them.

So I'm still looking for an answer.

The acronym, "ESC" part of the filename, likely indicates the group or website that released it. There are lots of music released by ESC in MP3 format and they play fine. All you need is properly configured player to play MP3 song(s) like JetAudio, WMP, Winamp or other popular music player.

P.S. If you still have problem, try reading comments on the site or provide link so we can test it.

I think that perhaps my bittorrent download was corrupted somehow, because it took a long time with many "hash fails". So I guess it's not the fault of the file type, since, as you say, there seem to be many of these files. I don't know what "ESC" is, but you say "there are lots of music released by ESC" and I see them listed in Google, so I suppose it must be something wrong at my end.
