I thought it would be cool to see other's desktops... I just cleaned mine up alittle and its still junky... (just in sub-folders now ) Here's my desktop:

P.S. You can make a screen shot of your desktop by going to your desktop and pressing "Print Scrn" at the top right part of your keyboard then go to "Paint" or another program and paste it in and save it, or you can use software made to make screenshots.

I have a lot of applications installed, but I tend to be a minimalist.. running only necessary programs in b.g. when computer boots up.

KillerJ59J, I admit I like the beveled, shiny look with the Luna WINXP themes.

Many people prefer the Classic Windows look especially if running an older computer....
or maybe for nostalgic reasons?

Almost laughable when I compare it to my MAc G5 computer desktop with its OSX aqua look.

Yeah... the sweet Win 98... makes me just sick too have to pay the 100$ to upgrade... I got a new computer this time, but if Microsfot makes me upgrade OSs again I'm switching to Linux... It pisses me off how they make the most important software not compatible with a older OS, and they do it after you get so used to it so they have to make the new OS more "user-friendly" somethings too "user-friendly" if you ask me...

But dont be fooled, u see the little button on the button ("Main"), if u click it u see about 25 different icons... but im used to it. I just place the things i use most often on my desktop.

Well, sorry if it's too big. Screen resolution is 1024x7468 and the format is PNG, I don't know if I can do better than that cause the pic quality will be lower. That's why I have chosen and external link. With a little patience the pic will load, it's only about 470 KB.

Hey Maska, use JPEG man, it's far better than PNG. My pic, same resolution as yours is in JPEG and its only 189.21 kB, that's 2.5x smaller than yours, but same resolution and quality

Yes...JPEG is preferred format for photos. You can get 1/4 the size with same quality. A good rule of thumb is using jpeg no bigger then 1024x768 @72dpi using 50-65% quality.

Well, I prefer Ukrainian chicks rather than *cough* sluts *cough* (clears throat). Anyway, she is definitely hot, much better than the retro windows blue that was there before (not that there is anything wrong with that shade of blue)

Oh, and of course any wallpaper is cool, not just those involving hot women. It's just that I can't help commenting on them

P.S. I HATE Jpegs! What the smart asses who invented it do, is they take a portion of a picture essential to the picture itself, but not essential to the eye, and they delete it. Making the picture therefore smaller. I think they also do some blur and stuff to cover it up, but thats just my opinion. Anyway, I got a trick to show you.

Ok, take a substantially large image, in BMP format, make it in ms paint, if u use windows that is. Then, take a screenshot of something colorful, and save it. Note, the file is quite large (depending on the screenshot's size, anyway, usually rounds up to 3mb for me...) Now, take that same picture, open it up in a different program, and save it as a 100% jpeg, or 90%, just enough to see the diffrence in size (of the file). Now, save it as a jpeg, and compare the 2 sizes.

Now, copy the original BMP file, or create a new one, and copy/paste the JPEG image from the jpeg file, into the new bmp, and compare the sizes of the new BMP to the old BMP. See the difference? The new bmp is about the same size as the jpeg, not the old BMP.

Ok, u might think there is something in the process of copy paste that does it. Fine, open up the JPEG file, make it full screen, and then press your 'print screen' key, and paste the picture into another new BMP file. Still the same size as the JPEG! AMAZING!!! Yet the file is still a BMP.
Now, open your original BMP file, in fullscreen, take a screenshot, paste into YET ANOTHER BMP file, and see that the size is big again! AMAZING...

That's just to prove that JPG permanently destroys pictures. Whatever was in them, that was unique is gone with JPEG. Its a moral thing (for me at least), and when you use JPEGS in 3d graphics, depending on how you use them, exceptions may arouse, where the texture gets messed up bad, and the problem is, its permanent. Now, i didnt try the above with a digital camera, but if anyone here owns a digital camera, and has no life it would be pretty interesting to see what results it may show.

I completely agree with you about the JPEG bit, that is how they compress them, by removing generally not needed data. Yes, this does reduce image quality, so if you want to preserve quality save in a not-compressed format, like BMP. Now, stuff that I post on forums are JPEGs because quality really does not matter , but size does so I choose JPEG when size is an issue. When quality is an issue, I save as BMP or other un-compressed format.

Well, since most pics nowadays are JPEGs I think you made a very good point, one that most people either don't know or tend to forget. I'd say 99% of the pics on my computer are JPEGs, but if you're doing stuff with 3d graphics or programs that require uncompressed pics, you're definately going to run into problems, which happened to me a few weeks ago.

You're lucky to have a loyal girlfriend, they are somewhat hard to find, or maybe it's just me ?

Ok, since I have completely switched from Windows to Fedora Core .... maybe I should post my new desktop.

Nice desktop H_TeXMeX_H, u have to see mine I told u dat I have FC3 but without vga drivers A realy poor desktop with super huge icons.

Just right-click on an icon then click Stretch Icon ... you can then change the size of the icon by dragging the corners ... the Firefox icon used to be gigantic ... but I made it smaller
