I saw the previous post on Win Media Player 11 and codecs, but that info doesn't seem to address my problem (tried it) - I play full length video clips from a UC college internet extension (clips 20-45min long), most/all of these clips are in asx. format and the buffer rate is chronic to say the least (buffers every few secs.) - I have tried just about every conceivable configuration in the "performance" settings to try to fix this issue (may not have hit the right combo); I can reduce the buffer time but it still occurs. I can reduce the frequency by a little bit but the time out to buffer is still 2-4 seconds long and the play time appears choppy... This goes for all the asx. clips in this UC's video library; other extensions play smoothly, but I don't know about ALL the different extensions (no experience with all).

I am running Win XP Home edition with Internet Explorer 8, my internet connection is satellite and runs at 100.0 Mbps (LAN) - I recently upgraded to IE 8 thinking the increased speed would help the problem with my Win Media but... it didn't (same performance as with IE 7) - My system and all programs are up to date, I Clean Disc and Defrag regularly and empty my Browsing History regularly also - I run Zone Alarm, No Adware, and AVG.

i.e. I also unloaded WinAmp thinking that there may be a conflict with Win Media, this made no difference to the performance of my Win Media, but my system is running faster! (not reloading WinAmp) - In addition to Win Media Player 11, I have Real Player, iTunes & Quick Time.

Any trouble shooting advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx ~ M.
