Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have a mov file which won't play in QuickTime -- I get an error saying the player is missing a component and it directs me to this page:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/c...ubtype=574d5633

The question is, how do I know which is the missing component from that list? According to GSpot, the mov file's codec is WMV3, which after doing some research is also known as Windows Media Video 9. Is it simply a case of finding and installing the WMV3 codec. I would've thought that particular codec would be included with the latest Windows Media Player (which I have).

I installed QuickTime Alternative, but the file still won't play in any of the players on my pc (Windows Media Player, vlc, Media Player Classic). My OS is XP home edition.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The Windows version of QuickTime can not play that file. Only the MacOS version can.

Maybe VLC can play it.

Thanks for the response.

When I try to play the file in VLC, I get the following error:

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "WMV3". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

There are ways of converting windows files to play on a mac via a plug-in, so is there any way of converting from mac to windows?
