There are several Internet websites that use their Anti-Virus product's engine to offer a webpage that scans your computer for viruses, worms and trojans. In this article, I shall introduce a few of the popular ones and how to use them.

This is an effective and thorough scanner from a respectable company. To begin, visit

and click the link stating 'scan without registering' . On the next page, select the country you are scanning from, which transfers you to the next section, containing an ActiveX program. Click Yes on any prompts you are shown. A small box appears, which downloads the files needed to scan, to a temporary directory on your computer.

After this has finished, check the box next to 'My Computer' and click the big Scan button.

You will be alerted to any infections found, and how to deal with them.





Panda Software Panda ActiveScan

Commonly praised as one of the best online scanners, active scan will disinfect and find viral infections using definitions and heuristics.

To begin, click the Scan Your PC button in the centre. Follow the instructions through, and you can even disconnect from the internet while it scans if you are on dialup.

Keep in mind ActiveX can plague I.E. with conflicts/stability issues. Personally, I stay away from activeX unless you know its a trusted source.
Also, if you are infected with a nasty.. sometimes accessing internet can pose to be problem. Web-based solution won't always work.
